Supporting You Through Mediation
Providing a safe space for couples to understand their options for the future.
My Role
I often support clients who are in mediation by providing independent legal advice (also known as “ILA”).
I empower clients to make grounded and informed decisions and find their voice in the mediation process.
Some of the ways I support clients throughout the mediation process include:
Explaining the law and walking you through the documents and calculations you will need for mediation
Coaching on how to present your views most effectively
Helping prepare financial statements and financial disclosure
Helping develop and evaluate settlement options
Providing independent legal advice on any proposed settlement terms
Attending a mediation session with you if needed to resolve impasse
Drafting or reviewing a separation agreement or parenting plan
Complex Equalization & Valuation Issues
Property division can become particularly complex when a separation involves significant assets. I provide practical, thoughtful legal advice to help clients understand how these assets may be treated and to navigate the valuation and equalization issues that can arise.
This may include inheritances & gifts from family members, trusts, family-owned businesses, professional practices, investments, pensions, real estate, or stock options.
I work with clients to identify and understand the relevant financial issues as they relate to family law. I have access to a network of financial professionals such as chartered business valuators, accountants, tax specialists and real estate appraisers to obtain appropriate valuations or other professional advice where needed.
